Public sector unions to negotiate with government

Koforidua), June 16, GNA - Representatives of public sector unions and other organized labour will meet the government this week to negotiate for salary adjustments for public sector workers. This has become necessary as a result of the recent increase in the petroleum products with correspond hike in the prices of goods and services.

The groups included the Trade Union Congress, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the Judicial Service Association, The Civil Servant Association and the National Association of Graduate Teachers. The Deputy General of the TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, said this when he addressed a three-day meeting of the Eastern Regional Council of Labour meeting in Koforidua.

He said the negotiation for salary adjustment had become necessary to mitigate the cost of living as a result of increases of goods and services. Mr Baah blamed the previous government for its failure to issue a White Paper for the implementation of the single spine pay policy after the consultancy firm submitted its final report in August 2008. 1
