Public outcry against slow pace of work by contractor

Kumasi, May 9, GNA--Residents of Kwadaso Nsuom in Kumasi have expressed outrage at the slow pace of work by the contractor awarded a job to rehabilitate a by-pass linking the area with the Kumasi-Sunyani highway.

They complained that for more than four months now, the work has been at a stand still creating a lot of inconvenience for motorists. Mr Osei Owusu, spokesman for the residents, took newsmen to inspect an abandoned culvert constructed by the contractor on a section of the road which has become choked with mud.

He described it as a typical example of the waste in the system pointing out that eventually the whole culvert would have to be demolished. Mr Owusu said they were rehabilitating the road themselves when the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) asked them to stop and it subsequent awarded the job to a lady contractor.
