Public Alert: Cyberbullying surge traced to Digital Lending Apps

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public warning regarding a resurgence in cyberbullying incidents perpetrated by the owners of digital lending mobile applications.

The Authority has recorded a sharp increase in complaints this year, highlighting an escalating threat to mobile users.

A statement released by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) on May 11, 2025, revealed that it has received about three hundred and seventy-seven (377) reports from January to May of 2025.

“Between January and May 2025, the CSA received a concerning 377 reports related to these cyberbullying tactics. This marks a substantial rise compared to the 228 cases recorded throughout the entire year 2024, indicating a worrying trend,” the statement partly said.

It further explained the operations by these cyber bullies in a detailed breakdown as captured in the statement.

The strategy used to bait and threaten victims include; unsolicited loan disbursement, aggressive extortion tactics, demanding loan repayment with exorbitant interest rates, threats to circulate actual or fabricated nude photos, among other things.

It also identified several applications associated with these cyberbullying activities.

Users are advised to be cautious of, and if possible, avoid apps such as Miniloan, Mix loan, Devtage loan, Ozzy money-cash,Plus Cash Arrow, Fundscredit, Getloan.

The Cyber Security Authority urges the public to exercise extreme caution when interacting with digital lending applications and to report any suspicious activities or cyberbullying attempts to the police.
