Prostitutes Go Wild Over Fake Money

The agitations of some sex workers over being paid with fake currency by their clients have led to the arrest of three Ivorians believed to be behind the scam.

The arrested persons are Prosper Atokara- 28, Quomdleon Mark- 25, and Qulaih Mark Stephanie- 29. The three were alleged to have used fake GH¢10 notes to pay the prostitutes after hiring their services at Abeka Lapaz but luck eluded them when the sex workers quickly detected the scam and caused their arrest.

Items found on them included 84 pieces of fake GH¢10 notes and 309 pieces of fake USD 100 notes. Confirming the story to Daily Guide, the Tesano Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Stephen Donyina-Kyeremeh, indicated that the incident happened around 2am Monday morning at a hotel near Abeka Lapaz.

Upon a tip off by the hotel authorities that the three men were using fake currency to trade, police stormed the place and arrested them.

A search conducted on them revealed 309 pieces of USD 100 notes, and 84 pieces of GH¢10 notes which were all fake. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the three suspects used the fake currencies to pay some ladies believed to be sex workers for their services.

“Our investigations revealed that the three ladies (name withheld) were picked to the said hotel by the three suspects for the night on Sunday evening.”

The suspects later gave two of the ladies GH¢30 each and the other GH¢40 for their services. One of the ladies, after receiving the money, showed the money to one of the hotel attendants to check if it was a genuine Ghanaian currency.

The money was detected to be fake so the ladies alerted the hotel authorities to be cautious.

The police were later informed that some young men were using fake money for trade. Upon interrogation after their arrest, the suspects said they got the monies from the Togo border when they were travelling to Ghana.

ASP Donyina-Kyeremeh said investigations were ongoing to ascertain the truth. He urged the public to be cautious of the fraudulent act of some people who used dubious means to dupe unsuspecting persons. He said a lot of cases of scam have been reported to the station so the public must be wary of such operations.
