An Accra District Court has adjourned the case of a Lebanese, Rabih Haddad who has been accused of raping his 19-year-old house-help to March 29, 2018.

This was necessitated by state prosecutors who prayed the court for time to get the Attorney General’s advice.

Appearing before the court presided over by a relieving judge, Magistrate Gloria Laryea, Chief Inspector George Akomeah told the court that they had concluded their investigations but are waiting for the AG’s advice for the way forward on the matter.

He therefore prayed the court to adjourn the matter hoping that the advice would be ready by the next sitting date.

The judge, in granting the plea ordered the prosecution to follow up on the advice and ensure that they get the docket so as to allow the court decide on the next step to take.

She therefore gave a one month adjournment to allow the prosecution lay their hands on the docket as well get the AG’s advice.

Rabih Haddad has been accused of assaulting and raping his 19-year-old house-help.

He was initially remanded into custody by an Accra District Court which denied his application for bail on the grounds that it did not have the jurisdiction to grant the accused person bail.

His lawyer, Ralph Poku Adusei subsequently went to the High Court and a court presided over by Justice Kofi Dorgu granted him bail in the sum of GH?500,000 with two sureties.

As part of the bail terms, one of the sureties must be a Ghanaian who is gainfully employed and has a fixed place of abode.

The sureties are also to submit a passport size photograph to the court’s registrar while the Ghanaian surety is to be justified.

Again, the accused person has been ordered to submit his passport to the court’s registrar and must seek the court’s permission whenever he wishes to travel outside the court’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, the DNA test on the 19-year-old has shown that there were no sperm on the victim.

Although an earlier Police Hospital report dated December 3, 2017 indicated that sperms were found on the girl, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the result of the forensic DNA test says no sperms were found on the victim (name withheld), sharply contradicting the earlier Police Hospital report.

According to the DNA report titled ‘The Republic Vrs Rabih Haddad’, Lab No. DNA 66/17, “the vaginal swab cuts reacted negatively to the test of human semen” and that “based on the DNA analysis, the suspect Rabih Haddad can be excluded as a contributor to the DNA profile obtained from the Exhibit”.
