Prosecute WAEC officials who aided exams leakage – I.K Gyasi

Renowned Educationist I.K Gyasi has called for stiff punishment to be meted out against any official of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) who is found to have contributed to the leakage of exams papers.

According to him, that is one of the surest ways of curbing or curtailing the annual incident of exam paper leakages.

His comment comes in the wake of leakage of three papers of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination which has been confirmed by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

Some students in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions reportedly had access to the oral English, Integrated Science and Social Studies papers between 12 midnight and 4 am on the day the papers were written.

The Daily Graphic also reports that the papers were in circulation through social media platforms.

According to the report, some students created WhatsApp group chats to circulate the leaked exams papers.

WAEC has for several years battled with leakages of its examination papers in Ghana.

Last year, the council cancelled five subject papers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) after questions leaked.

The papers included the Paper 2 of English language, Religious and Moral Education, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Social Studies.

But speaking on Okay FM Wednesday, I.K Gyasi who is also former Headmaster Master of the T.I Ahmadiyya Secondary School that WAEC must be held responsible for the leakage of three papers of the ongoing examinations.

He said WAEC officials must not get away with this incident as they have always done, adding that sanctions must be applied.

“When it exams papers leak, WAEC should not investigate the issue. Rather a committee must be set outside WAEC to probe the source of the leakage.

Whoever is found guilty must be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other. WAEC is always quick to state that any candidate found to have engaged in exam malpractice will be punished.
