A Ghanaian-based US pastor, Prophet Jimmy Alla-Mensah, has reacted to the deadly derailment of Mexico’s Interoceanic Train that left at least 13 people dead and nearly 100 injured, according to Mexican authorities.

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Asunción Ixtaltepec, Oaxaca, when the train derailed along its main line linking Veracruz on the Gulf Coast to Salina Cruz on the Pacific.

Mexican Navy officials said 36 passengers required hospital care, while others sustained minor injuries. An investigation has since been launched to determine the cause of the derailment.

Reacting to the tragedy, Prophet Alla-Mensah, founder of House of Divine Glory Church, described the incident as a moment for sober reflection and prayer rather than celebration.

In a statement shared with his followers, he referenced an earlier prophetic alert issued by his ministry in November, which warned of possible railway disruption in Mexico.

He stressed, however, that the reference was not intended to glorify tragedy or claim responsibility, but to encourage spiritual vigilance and intercession.

“This is not celebration. This is confirmation—not to exploit disaster or claim credit, but to awaken intercessors and call nations to spiritual alertness,” the statement read.

The cleric also offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayers for the recovery of the injured.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the injured recover speedily,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, has directed senior government officials to the site to personally attend to affected families, while emergency response and rescue efforts continue.

The Interoceanic Train, managed by the Mexican Navy, began operations in 2023 as part of a major infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting economic development in southern Mexico.

As investigations proceed, authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow official findings to guide conclusions about the cause of the derailment.
