Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has stated that under her administration as Chairperson of the Police Council, she will thoroughly scrutinise cases of promotion delays, unfair treatments, and other concerns within the Ghana Police Service.
According to her, such cases will be addressed and reviewed to ensure proper actions are taken, adding that this will align with the government’s resetting agenda.
Speaking at her swearing-in ceremony, officiated by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Prof Opoku-Agyemang underscored the importance of the law enforcement agency in ensuring the country's security and safety.
She reaffirmed her commitment to fostering leadership that creates an enabling environment for the police to work efficiently, while providing the necessary support for the execution of their mandate.
“To the brave men and women of our police service, you are the frontline of our national security and the face of justice in our communities. You deserve leadership that supports you in your mission to serve and protect and Mr President, we thank you for your assurances.
“This is the type of leadership I commit to bring to this room. Undue delays in promotions, unfair treatments, discrimination and as well as unjustified grievances will be put under scrutiny as part of a resetting agenda,” she said.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang used the platform to urge Ghanaians to work together with the police toward building a country that promotes safety and fairness for all its citizens.
“To the citizens of our country, we serve you. Your safety, your rights, and your confidence in our police service will always be at the center of our work. I trust that all of us will contribute to building a safer, fairer, and a more just Ghana,” she added.
Her appointment as the Chairperson of the Police Council of Ghana has made her the first female in the country to achieve such a feat.
This is in accordance with the country’s laws which allows for the Vice President to take on the role of being the Chairperson of the Council, which advises the President of Ghana on matters of policy relating to internal security, including budgeting, administration, and the promotion of police officers above the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
