The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Prof Ransford Gyampo, has initiated legal action against certain individuals following allegations that he engaged in lavish state-funded travel and conducted unauthorised recruitments within the institution.
In an exclusive follow-up statement to GhanaWeb on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Prof Gyampo revealed that, acting on the advice of his legal counsel, he has commenced legal proceedings to pursue his accusers in court for defamation.
He remains resolute in his decision to seek justice, adding that an official apology issued by the media house — where his accuser, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, a member of the NPP National Communications Team, made the allegations — would not deter him.
“Although the radio station on which the allegations were made has issued an apology, [he] in a follow-up telephone conversation indicated his intentions to remain resilient and focused on his core duty,” portions of his statement read.
Nevertheless, he vowed to seek justice at the courts of law.
He is accordingly filing a suit for defamation, insisting that Ghana is a country of law and not a jungle.
Earlier, on July 1, 2025, Prof Gyampo publicly denied these allegations via a statement on his Facebook page.
He specifically refuted claims that he had recruited "28 women and two men" into the Ghana Shippers Authority and traveled first class, despite President Mahama’s directive prohibiting such travel by appointees.
He described the claims as baseless, stating that he has not been involved in any hiring activities.
He clarified that recruitment at the Ghana Shippers Authority has, for several years, been handled professionally by a private outsourcing company, ensuring a rigorous and transparent selection process.
Addressing the allegations of expensive travels, Prof Gyampo emphatically stated that while his role occasionally requires international travel, he has only undertaken four trips out of numerous official opportunities.
He further clarified that each of these trips received explicit approval and permission from the Chief of Staff and were undertaken in economy class, directly refuting claims that he traveled in first or business class.
“Part of my work requires that I travel, and out of the over 38 opportunities, I have only honored 4 and these were with the expressed approval and permission from the Chief of Staff. Anyone can check for the evidence. I have never traveled on First Class or Business Class. I remain the only CEO in Ghana who travels on economy ticket. Again, the evidence of my boarding passes for all the four trips are there,” Prof Gyampo clarified.
Prof Gyampo's appointment as Acting CEO of the GSA by the John Dramani Mahama government came into effect on January 30, 2025.
He has previously been noted for his commitment to austerity and integrity at the GSA, emphasising economy class travel for himself and staff to combat financial challenges.

Prof Gyampo further indicated his awareness of a grand scheme hatched by some quarters in the opposition NPP to attack his person due to his vociferous stance against bad governance when they had the chance to rule Ghana. He stressed that he is more than willing to also face and fight them all the time, noting that he doesn’t fear their childish propaganda.
