Prof. Awoonor Drags Ken Kuranchie To NMC

.. Over Malicious Falsehood of Grabbing GPHA Lands

News Desk Report

The Chairman of the Council of State, Professor Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor, has written to the National Media Commission (NMC) over what he termed ‘malicious and criminal journalism’ by the Daily Searchlight newspaper; which alleged that he had grabbed large tracts of land belonging the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

In a letter dated 7th March, 2012, to the NMC, Prof. Awoonor denies accessing any land belonging to GPHA; let alone to establish a shopping mall on the so-called acquired imaginary tracts of land.

He has, therefore, entreated the NMC to investigate the allegation and take steps to restore his hard-earned reputation and enviable public service record, spanning over forty-eight years.

According to our investigations, the Chairman of the Council of State, a renowned poet and writer, would wish to avail himself of the constitutional provisions that empowers the NMC to deal with aberrations in the media, and to cure irresponsible and reckless journalism, as well as purge the stable of quacks and illiterates parading as journalistic paragons in our society. Sources close to Prof. Awoonor said, the Chairman of the Council of State is eagerly waiting patiently on the NMC to pronounce on all this important issue, so as to establish the truth and help rid Ghanaian journalism of deliberate falsehood, defamation of character and mischievous publications. The said publication appeared in the 2nd March 2012 issue of Ken Kuranchie’s Daily Searchlight headlined : RED ARMBANDS @ GPHA .. Over Lands Highjacked By NDC Officials”.
