The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, has urged fellow lawmakers and the general public to make regular health checkups a part of their routine.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on July 8, 2025, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Professor Nyarko stressed the importance of preventive healthcare in the face of growing pressure and workload in professional life.

According to him, the nature of certain jobs, particularly in public service and politics, exposes individuals to intense stress levels that could lead to life-threatening conditions if not properly monitored through regular medical assessments.

“Certain jobs today are so stressful and demanding. Life is short, but we can make good out of it if we take good care of ourselves. Regular checkups are a necessary part of that care”, he stated.

Professor Nyarko further advised that individuals who are unable to manage their schedules and well-being effectively should consider appointing personal managers to help them strike a healthy balance between work and personal life.

He emphasised that personal health and wellness must not be taken for granted, especially by people in high-pressure environments, as productivity and service to the nation depend largely on sound physical and mental health.

Professor Nyarko also addressed a common misconception surrounding blood pressure medication. He said some people believe that taking BP medication leads to impotence but dismissed this claim as unfounded and not backed by medical evidence.

He urged Ghanaians to seek medical advice from professionals rather than relying on hearsay, stressing that regular checkups and following prescribed treatment can help preserve life and enhance productivity.
