A presidential fundraising dinner, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in preparation for Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, cost the Supporters’ Project Committee an amount of Ghc337,665.

Out of the amount, Ghc26,323 was supposedly spent on giving the Banquet Hall of the State House, where the event was held, an ambiance befitting the event.

Another Ghc162,342 was allegedly spent on ‘Production and logistics’ while Ghc149,000 was spent on ‘hotel accommodation, dinner and other logistics’ for the ball.

These expenses were contained in the report of the Justice Dzamefe Commission of Inquiry into matters relating to the participation of the Black Stars team in the 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil.

‘Logistics’ appeared twice in the expenditure list of the Supporters’ Project Committee in the report, but it is unclear what items and expenditure went into that.

The World Cup Supporters’ Project expenditure, under which this expenditure was captured, realised a total amount of Ghc4,542,735 from both private and government entities to help airlift Ghanaians to Brazil.

It would be recalled that President John Mahama in May 2014 hosted a dinner gala to send off the Ghana Black Stars in preparation for the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
