President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has challenged the media to remain committed to the truth at all times.
In an interaction with the Presidential Press Corps (PPC) at the Flagstaff House in Accra, he urged the media to discharge its mandate without fear or favour and to leverage its role to strengthen social cohesion and good governance in Ghana.
The interaction with the Presidential Press Corp was to enable the President to interact informally with the Flagstaff House Correspondents and to appreciate their commitment and dedication to duty.
President Akufo-Addo told the correspondents that as the Fourth Estate of the realm, the media must focus on empowering citizens and promote accountable governance and good democratic ideals.
But the media should not compromise the truth whatsoever and should be the pivot on which the regeneration of the country and building a climate of change for national development revolves around.
The President commended the PPC for their devotion to duty and for keeping Ghanaians informed on the policies, plans and directions of government.
He was grateful to the correspondents for their impartial reportage of the activities of the Presidency, saying, "So the work you are doing is very, very important and you should recognize that you are doing an important work for the development of the society."
"You are an indispensable part of governance. You are the mirror, which the nation and the society looks through and see for what is going on," he noted.
The Dean of the Presidential Press Corps, Charles Takyi-Boadu, thanked the President for recognizing the work of the Corps and assured him that the group would discharge at all times, its mandate professionally to aid the development of the nation.
