President’s nominee for Bawku MCE rejected

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee as Bawku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hawa Ninchema was on Thursday June 29, 2017 rejected by assembly members of the Bawku Municipal Assembly.

She received 15 votes representing 56% against 12 which is equal to 44% failing make the mandatory two-thirds majority as required by law to be confirmed and sworn into office.

The process was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission with the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari in attendance.

The nominee was among those the president recently nominated to fill in vacancies at the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

One Amadu Moqtar Bagaya who last month was nominated as the MCE had his nomination revoked for reasons yet to be ascertained.

In a letter dated May 13, 2017 and signed by Hon David Adoliba the Presiding Member reference BMA/A.1/V.4/, it stated

“this office has received instructions from the Upper East Regional Minister upon a directive from the office of the President to Suspend the Special Meeting of the Assembly slated for Wednesday 17th May 2017 to confirm the President’s nominee for the position of the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive. Further instructions on the meeting will be communicated to you in due course”
