President Rawlings arrives after surgical operation

ACCRA, October 1 -- President Jerry John Rawlings arrived in Accra on Friday after undergoing surgical operation on his shoulder and throat in Switzerland.

Hundreds of Ghanaians and NDC supporters were at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome him.

The President wearing a green jumper over a black trouser accompanied by his wife, Nana Konadu and the Minister for Protocol and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Daniel Ohene Agyekum, waved to the cheering crowd at the foot of the gangway. Vice President Professor John Evans Atta Mills and his Wife Naadu, Ministers of State, the IGP, Mr Peter Nanfuri, the CDS, Lt. General Ben Akafia and some members of the diplomatic corps, met him.

President Rawlings before the operation had attended the United Nations Millennium Summit in New York and addressed the parliament in Scotland.

He also obtained an Honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh and interacted with the business community in Scotland
