President Mills will improve the rail system - Anyidoho

Accra, Oct 27, GNA- Mr. Koku Anyidoho, Director of Communications at the Presidency, on Wednesday announced that President Mills' administration was drawing up strategies to improve on rail transport and ease congestions on major roads in the country.

"All over the world, rail transport is not only faster, but also helps in easing traffic, particularly in the major cities, which government will embark on seriously from next year."

Mr. Anyidoho who was answering questions from Presidential Press Corp on the rail system in the country said President Mills would cut the sod for the commencement of the project on Thursday October 27 after inaugurating the Accra-Asoprochona train.

He said apart from funds from China, government was mobilizing resources from other areas to increase infrastructural development beginning from next year.

"From next year, there will be massive infrastructural development in the country, comprising of railways, roads and other major facilities, which will not only increase our development, but will also create jobs for more Ghanaians."

He said government "was also doing everything possible" to improve on the conditions of service of the Railway workers, adding 'as soon as the sector becomes vibrant and productivity goes high, workers will definitely benefit better working conditions."
