President Mills to Abuja, Speaker acts as President

Accra, Nov. 9, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills leaves Accra tomorrow Tuesday to Abuja, Nigeria, to attend a conference on Consultation on Humanitarian Counterpart.

The President, who will leave Accra on Wednesday at 0700 hours, on Tuesday notified Parliament about his trip.

The Speaker of Parliament, Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo, has therefore been sworn in as Acting President of the Republic. This is in accordance with article 60 (11) of the 1992 Constitution. This is the second time the Speaker will be acting in that capacity.

The swearing in became necessary because Vice President John Dramani Hahama is currently in Czech Republic attending a forum aimed at facilitating the flow of investment and business entrepreneurs from both countries.

The Chief Justice Georgina Wood swore in the Speaker at about 1400 hours Today Tuesday.
