President Mahama worried about needless partisanship of President Mills' death

President John Dramani Mahama on Monday called on members of the National Democratic Congress and other political parties to stop “the needless partisanship” that has surfaced after the death of President Evans Atta Mills.

He said such partisanship was not only an impediment to progress, but an activity that could undermine the peace and unity that the country has been enjoying over the years.

President Mahama made the call when he received members of the National House of Chiefs, led by Professor Naa John Nabila, at the Osu Castle, Accra. The delegation was at the Castle to congratulate President Mahama for taking up the office of the President of Ghana, and also to commiserate with him over the death of President Mills.

President Mahama said chieftaincy was an integral part of the governance system of Ghana, and he would deepen the institution, to help the government to ensure democracy, good governance and the rule of law.

He said the death of President Mills had bequeathed to him a heavy responsibility and he would continue to seek advice from stakeholders to achieve the development goals of the country.

Naa Prof. Nabila recounted their cordial relationship with the late President and pledged the support of the House for President Mahama, to continue with the good works that the late President had initiated.

President of the National House of Chiefs encouraged President Mahama to take heart and meet challenges head-on and said “I know that at the end of the day, you will come out successful in your new position.”

Pognaa Namalteng Dagini Sugri I, President of the National Paramount of Queen Mothers Association of Ghana and Nana Ama Amissah III, Vice President of the Association, were also at the Osu Castle, to commiserate with President Mahama, and to congratulate him for his elevation to the position of President of the Republic.**
