President John Dramani Mahama has revealed the government's plans to establish a new national airline as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana's aviation industry, improve international connectivity, and boost trade and tourism.
Speaking at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit 2026 in London on Monday, June 1, 2026, President Mahama said the proposed national carrier forms part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a major transportation and investment hub in West Africa.
President Mahama is currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, where he is engaging investors and key stakeholders to deepen economic cooperation between Ghana and the UK.

The visit is also expected to include a royal audience with King Charles III and a high-level meeting with Keir Starmer as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new areas of partnership.
President Mahama noted that the government is investing in aviation infrastructure across the country to accommodate growing passenger numbers and cargo volumes while enhancing the efficiency of air transport services.
According to him, improved air connectivity remains critical to facilitating business, exports, tourism, and investment flows between Ghana and key global markets, including the United Kingdom.
“We are expanding airport infrastructure and pursuing the establishment of a new national airline to improve connectivity and facilitate trade, tourism, and exports between Ghana and major international markets, including, of course, the United Kingdom,” he said.
The President also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana’s ports and logistics systems to strengthen the country’s competitiveness as a gateway to the African market.
“We are also modernising our ports and logistics systems to strengthen Ghana’s position as the preferred trade and investment gateway to Africa,” he added.
