Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, a former Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, has raised red flags over Ibrahim Mahama’s involvement in the transport arrangement for president John Dramani Mahama.
He stated that this puts the life of the first gentleman of the land at risk.
“President Mahama’s life is at risk! As a politician of this land, I also have the oversight responsibility to ensure the safety of the president,” he said on Okay FM on March 10, 2025.
While deliberating on the matter that has attracted criticisms from the likes of media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, he called for a debate on the matter in Parliament.
“The security and safety of the president is being compromised. We must understand that the president occupies a special place in the country and all must ensure that his safety is guaranteed. I understand that there’s some level of trust between the president and Ibrahim Mahama due to family ties, but I advise Ibrahim Mahama to minimise his involvement in government processes,” he added.
It would be recalled that business mogul and brother of President Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama, was captured driving a bus with family members aboard it to the presidential inauguration.
He was later reported to have driven president John Mahama in a state vehicle for an assessment of tidal waves damage in the Ketu South constituency in Volta Region.
These incidents, which have fueled perception of informal family involvements in state functions, has attracted widespread criticisms.
Meanwhile, in 1993, Transport Management System, introduced by the Ministry of Health, marked an attempt to standardise government vehicle operations.
However, there’s no existing legislation which restricts who may drive the president in non-motorcade settings.
The focus has remained on security logistics rather than the identity of the driver, given that the individual is authorised by the Presidential Security Detail.
It is against this backdrop that Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsa has called for a debate in Parliament towards a possible legislation on transport arrangement for presidents.
