A former District Chief Executive of Fanteakwa, Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, has described President John Dramani Mahama’s inclusion of young leaders in his government as a bold and forward-thinking strategy that could redefine Ghana’s political landscape.
In a recent Facebook post, Abass commended Mahama for breaking the norm in a political system often dominated by recycled figures.
He argued that the appointment of young, dynamic individuals to key ministerial and executive roles brings fresh energy, innovation, and a long-term vision to governance.
“Young appointees, by their very nature, are driven to prove themselves. Most are not content with ending their careers as CEOs or deputy ministers. They see these roles as stepping stones, platforms to ascend to even greater responsibilities, possibly even the highest office in the land. And rightly so. Some of the young faces now holding ministerial and executive positions already carry the poise and intellect of future presidents,” he indicated.
He added that these emerging leaders are acutely aware of the scrutiny they face.
He added that their vetting processes, often intense and publicly scrutinised, have prepared them for the immense responsibility ahead.
Figures such as George Opare Addo, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and Brogya Genfi were mentioned as examples of young leaders rising to the occasion.
“To assume that these young leaders would walk out of such vetting and begin to misbehave in office is to underestimate both their awareness and ambition. They are fully conscious of the weight of the legacy they are helping to build, the legacy of President Mahama, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and of a generation of leaders who want to do things differently,” Abass noted.
Abass further emphasised that the bar for integrity and accountability has been raised, particularly in light of recent corruption allegations involving former NPP appointees.
“The recent revelations of financial impropriety among former NPP appointees have raised the bar even higher. These young appointees know they must not only do better; they must be seen to be better. The pressure on them is enormous, but it is the kind of pressure that forges character, discipline, and excellence”, he stressed.
According to him, Mahama’s youthful appointees not only understand this new standard, but are committed to exceeding it.
“This is more than just youth inclusion. It is a reshaping of Ghana’s future, led by a generation determined to lead differently, and with purpose,” he added.
Abass said that if these young leaders continue on their current trajectory, Mahama’s decision will be seen as a transformative moment in Ghana’s democratic journey.
“And if these young appointees rise to the occasion, as many already are, President Mahama's decision will be remembered as a turning point; a visionary choice that empowered a new generation to lead with integrity, innovation, and courage”, he stated.
