President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to complete the long-awaited Regional Hospital in the Eastern Region in line with his promise to boost development in the area via the new "Big Push Agenda."
"Regarding the Eastern Regional Hospital which was initiated by the previous NPP administration, I pledge to the people of the Eastern Region that I will complete it. The government's upcoming 'Big Push Agenda' will focus on facilitating the completion of abandoned projects across the country," he stated.
"According to a World Bank report, Ghana faces an infrastructure deficit of $1.5 billion every year. Therefore, we must allocate $1.5 billion to complete roads, hospitals, and other essential facilities necessary for Ghana to progress," he added.
This initiative aims to address abandoned projects nationwide, with the Eastern Region set to benefit immensely.
"The government has introduced a program called the 'Big Push.' From the revenue generated by our gas industry and other exports, we have allocated part of that money to finance this program. The 'Big Push' will help us complete road works, as I know road construction was a major concern raised by the people during our campaign," he shared.
During a recent address earlier this morning, President Mahama emphasised the importance of completing projects started by previous administrations, highlighting the Regional Hospital as a priority.
"When we arrived in the Eastern Region, I instructed the contractors of ongoing road works to pause while we conducted an audit. We discovered that some of these roads had already been paid for by the Road Fund. If we're not careful, the same certificate may be submitted for payment to finance, resulting in double payments," he emphasised.
"I asked the Auditor General to audit such roads, and now that the audit is complete, we'll allow the contractors to return to the site unless they were involved in double payments, in which case they will face penalties. The 'Big Push' will ensure that the Eastern Region receives its fair share," he further stated.
