President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the outgoing British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, for her dedication to service during her tenure in office, as he bids her farewell.

Expressing deep appreciation for her service over the four years in office, the president highlighted key areas of ongoing cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom in a post shared on X on Thursday, June 12, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah .

He commended Thompson for her positive engagements throughout her time in Ghana and acknowledged the enduring historical relationship between the two nations, describing it as being impressive.

"We appreciate the partnership we have shared in the fight against terrorism. We will continue to rely on the UK for help and cooperation in intelligence gathering and training to prepare ourselves in the event of any attack," President Mahama said.

In furtherance of his point, President Mahama highlighted the importance of fostering stronger economic partnerships and enhancing trade relations.

He also acknowledged the evolving global landscape, including the decline in traditional development assistance, stressing the need for developing countries like Ghana to strategically reposition themselves.

Additionally, the president recognised the UK’s invaluable support in counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in intelligence gathering and training.

He emphasised the significance of continued collaboration in this area.

On her part, Harriet Thompson, who served in Ghana for over four years, also expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support and collaboration she experienced throughout her tenure.

She spoke highly of the successful implementation of several British-sponsored initiatives, emphasising their positive impact and the strong partnership between the two nations.
