President Kufuor's convoy involved in accident

Pra River Junction (Ash), Sept. 12, GNA - The Presidential Convoy on its way to the Atebubu District in Brong Ahafo Region was on Friday involved in an accident with a Kumasi-Koforidua bound passenger mini- bus near Pra River Junction on the Accra -Kumasi Highway in the Asante Akim South District.

President John Agyekum Kufuor's car was not involved.

Four security men and a driver in the convoy, who received various degrees of injuries, were rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital in Kumasi and they were treated and discharged.

The Medical Team of the Presidential Convoy treated the mini-bus passengers, who were injured.

Security sources told newsmen that the driver of the mini-bus with registration number AS 6565 P, Thomas Asafo-Adjei, 40, has been placed in Police custody pending investigations.

A passenger on the mini-bus told newsmen that when the attention of the Driver, who was playing music, was drawn to the approaching convoy he veered into the bush but when he discovered that he was going to hit a tree he turned the steering to bring the bus back onto the road and thus crashing into the vehicle that was just ahead of the President's car.

President Kufuor was on his way to tour a number of districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.
