President Kufuor commends Canada for assistance to Ghana

President John Agyekum Kufuor commended Canada for its support to Ghana for the success of the 2000 general election.

"We have to acknowledge the tremendous support by Canada and some donor countries and agencies that culminated in the success of the elections and peaceful transition", he told Ms Janet Graham, out-going Canadian High Commissioner when she paid a farewell call on him at the State House in Accra.

Ms Graham is leaving Ghana after a three-year duty tour. Until the appointment of a new High Commissioner in September, the Trade Commissioner would act as head of mission.

President Kufuor said although relationship between the two countries has been cordial for a long time it was further strengthened and deepened by Ms Graham.

Ms Graham commended Ghana for the peaceful elections and the smooth transition, which has given impetus to democratic rule in the country and pledged the continuous support of Canada to Ghana.

President Kufuor and Ms Graham exchanged parting gifts.
