President Kufuor To Drop Mahama ?

....Too Early To Choose Vice President – Kufuor

In an interview with the ''Evening News'', President Kufuor was asked if he would choose Alhaji Aliu Mahama as the Vice Presidential candidate for the 2004 elections. He replied ''My brother, we have not got to that time, wait until it is time, then we can talk about it'', he said.

In the same interview, the president assured political parties in the country that the government would create a level playing field for a keenly contested 2004 elections. He said the government has no plans to stifle opposition in order to win elections. In an interview with the ''Evening News'' President Kufuor described as baseless, allegations by the opposition that the government was gradually killing it.

He said the NPP, which he led to victory in 2004 was never afraid of opponents in elections. As a free country, he said, everybody could air their views without hindrance. ''We are not engaged in killing other political parties. We were in opposition for a long time and never allowed our party to be killed''.

The NPP, the President said would be the last to kill other political parties because it believes in multi party democracy.
