President Kaunda to attend Nkrumah's 90th birthday celebration

Accra (Greater Accra) 3rd Sept '99 - Dr Kenneth Kaunda, former President of Zambia and a stalwart of the African Liberation Struggle, will be in the country to join in the celebration of the 90th birthday anniversary of Dr Kwame Nkrumah on September 21.

He will attend a luncheon that will be preceded in the morning by simultaneous wreath laying ceremonies at the Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra and Nkroful, Dr Nkrumah's birthplace in the Western Region.

This is contained in a statement issued in Accra on Thursday by the Liberated Nkrumaists Brigade, which is organising the event in conjunction with the Democratic People's Party and the Verandah Boys and Girls Club.

It said an international symposium would take place on Wednesday, September 22 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The theme for the symposium would be "Kwame Nkrumah, Africa and the 21st Century."

The statement said eminent African personalities, who have agreed to participate in the symposium, include Dr Matambela Cyril Ramaphosa, the Veteran Anti-apartheid Campaigner and the former Secretary-General of the Confed eration of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).

The rest are Professor Jacob U Gordon, a renowned Pan Africanist and Lecturer at the University of Kansas and Dr Roberet Edward Lee, an African-American dentist and long-time associate of the late Osagyefo.

The statement said that between September 18 and 25 there will be youth seminars in all the regional capitals.

On September 26 Accra Hearts Oak and Great Olympics will play a football match for a trophy donated by the London Branch of the Liberated Nkrumaists Brigade

Gate proceeds would be used to finance the proposed Nkrumah Library Complex at Nkroful.
