A government taskforce has been established to investigate the helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two ministers of state and a senior national security official, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

According to graphiconline.com report on August 7, 2025, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, confirmed the development in an interview with Joy FM on Thursday, August 7.

The victims of the crash include the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; and the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed Limuna; Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Muslim said the taskforce will be responsible for uncovering the facts surrounding the crash.

“There’s also a taskforce to investigate what has happened. Clear communication of the facts will help ease the burden on the hearts of many. We will provide updates regularly,” she said.

She also disclosed that the Presidential Planning Committee has begun engaging the bereaved families and is coordinating funeral arrangements in accordance with national protocols.

In the wake of the tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning.

During this period, national flags will fly at half-mast, and all official engagements have been suspended for the rest of the week.

Muslim said the president was personally devastated by the loss, noting that the deceased were not only colleagues but also long-time friends and respected professionals.
