Inaugurates its district men’s fellowship

The Washington DC District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Men’s Fellowship, held an inaugural service on Sunday May 3, 2015, at the Adom Congregation in Adelphi - Maryland, USA. A seven-member executive committee was inducted into office for a three-year term. The officers are Dr. Samuel Agyem-Bediako president; Mr. Ebenezer Owusu-Amoako, Vice President; Mr. Opoku-Mensah, Secretary; Mr. Samuel Ntim, Financial Secretary; Mr. Samuel Asinor, Organizer/Welfare; Mr. Eric Frimpong, Chaplain; and Mr. Gyasi Charles Barnor, Music Director.

The aim of the committee is to spread The Word and win souls for Christ through friendship and social gatherings. The Men’s Fellowship also intends to support all Presbyterian Church of Ghana immigrants who settle within the Mid-East region of the United States: Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, Atlanta and Florida.

The District Minister of the Washington DC District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Kofi Karikari, performed the inauguration and induction service, and charged both the executives and the entire fellowship to abide by Galatians 5: 22-23. He urged members to love the church, serve and strife to say only good things about the church. He also admonished them not seek for themselves any glory, but dedicate themselves to doing good work for the Lord and thinking about those who do not yet know Christ.

Preaching with the theme "Christ the True Vine", the District Minister said that just as a vine is a productive tree, so must members of the Men’s Fellowship be productive wherever they may be. He explained that Jesus Christ represents the main tree of the vine, and his disciples the branches. JUST AS THE VINE, NOURISHES THE BRANCHES, CHRIST will never fail the Men's Fellowship if they follow and obey His commands. Also, Rev. Karikari reminded members that each of them needs to be active and not behave like passengers in a “Tro-Tro”, who refuse to alight and help when it has a flat tire. He emphasized the need for all to use their different God-given talents to help society.

During the induction service, he noted that, as the Men’s Fellowship was the last group to be inaugurated in the district, it could be likened to a sleeping giant who has been awakened. He urged its members to work hard with all other groups in the District, so that the word of God will get to all and sundry within the district and draw them closer to God. The District Minister dwelled on the hymn “Asodi da me so” and again reminded the executives that “curse unto the one who does the work of God anyhow”. The District Director of Church Life and Nurture (CLAN), Mrs. Alexandra Adjei-Fuller also charged the new executive to allow themselves to be filled by the Holy Spirit, in order to perform their duties effectively.

Dr. Samuel Agyem-Bediako, a Presbyter at Adom Congregation, on behalf of the executive members, expressed their appreciation for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to put the Men’s Fellowship into full gear for evangelism and ecumenical outreach. He said, “As we have been tasked to lead the awakened giants for the next three years, we will tap the expertise of all members to make the presence of the Fellowship felt in the district, presbytery and among all men who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, with God being our helper”. He assured the gathering that with their support and prayers, he and his team will put the District Fellowship on a higher pedestal, during their tenure of office.

The service was attended by representatives of Men’s Fellowship from congregations within the District: Adom and Trinity - Maryland; Bethel and Emmanuel - Virginia; and Resurrection - Atlanta. Brothers from Christ-the-King Presbyterian Church (USA) Men’s Fellowship were also present.
