Presby church exposes Twum Boafo; "You are not a member"

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana says it is not interested in the propaganda gimmick employed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board Kojo Twum Boafo.

According to the Church, it is not perturbed by the purported resignation from the Church by Mr. Twum Boafo since he has never been a member of the Church.

Mr. Twum Boafo on Tuesday issued a statement declaring his resignation from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Mr. Twum Boafo ascribed his resignation to what he said are indications that certain members of the Church are being politically biased.

His resignation follows recriminations between the Church and the ruling NDC over the creation of 45 new constituencies ahead of the elections.

A communiqué by the Church suggesting the suspension of elections in the new constituencies drew sharp criticism from the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who said he found the stance of the Church hypocritical.

Asiedu Nketia wondered why the Church had suddenly found its voice during an NDC rule but was allegedly silent on national issues during the rule of the NPP.

The back-and-forth culminated in the resignation of Kojo Twum Boafo who claims to be a member of the Church.

But speaking to XYZ News, the Public Relations Officer of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Emmanuel Osei Acheampong, said their checks indicate that Mr. Twum Boafo "is not and has never been a member of the Church".

According to Mr. Acheampong, "only card bearing members who pay their tithes are recognized as members of the Church".

He added that Mr. Twum Boafo’s father is a recognized member of the Church and not Mr. Twum Boafo himself.

Mr. Acheampong said records also showed that Mr. Twum Boafo is only an "occasional member" of the Church and has no right to claim that he is a recognised member of the Church.

He described the resignation as irrelevant adding that the Church is not a company or an institution for one to write a resignation letter when that person wants to quit.
