Pre-burial service for PV Obeng held

A pre-burial requiem mass has been held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tema for the late Paul Victor Obeng, our correspondent says.

The service attracted hundreds of mourners to honour Mr Obeng, who until his death was the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission.

PV, as he was affectionately called, passed away on Saturday, May 17 after a short illness.

TV3’s Josephine Frempong reported on News in Brief on Thursday, August 14 that the mass was considered very dear by worshippers of the Good Shepherd Church as a result of the instrumental role played by the late statesman.

He rose through the Church’s ranks to become the Knight of Marshal, Josephine Fempong said.

The ceremony was officiated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle.

It lasted two hours after which the body was taken to the forecourt of the State House for friends and sympathisers to file past the body.

Final interment is scheduled to take place in Mr Obeng's hometown, Akrokerri in the Ashanti Region, on Saturday, August 16.
