Pre-School Teachers Taken To Task

Tema,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. Pre-school teachers, identified as layers of the foundation of the educational ladder, would have to avoid any lapses that will hamper the later development of the child. They must inculcate in children, good health habits which, unlike instincts, are learnt through practice, and nurture them to enable them to adhere to social and physical habits like good table manners, modesty and courtesy in the prime of their lives. Mrs Hannah Amoah, Tema Municipal Director of Education, said this in a speech read on her behalf at the end of a six-week course for pre-school teachers at Tema. The course was aimed at equipping Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre teachers/attendants with the basic knowledge and skills in early childhood education and care. Organised by the Tema municipal directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the course drew 41 participants from both public and private day care centres and had resource persons from the National Nursery Teachers' Training Centre and the Tema municipal office of the GES. Lectures were given on the health needs of the pre-school child, its feeding, first aid and the care of the disabled child at the ECD centre, among others.
