The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper and General Secretary of the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG), Kwesi Pratt Jr, has lambasted US President Donald Trump's accusations of racism in South Africa.

He has labeled them as a clear case of "double standards."

Pratt asserts that President Trump lacks the moral authority to criticise South Africa on grounds of genocide and racism.

Speaking on Pan African TV on May 31, 2025, during a discussion on African countries' over-reliance on Western democracies, Kwesi Pratt condemned the perceived embarrassment Trump subjected South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to during a recent Oval Office meeting at the White House.

Describing President Trump's posture as "a pot calling a kettle black," Pratt argued that the US President is engaged in far worse actions elsewhere.

"Now, I was struck by the fact that the leader of the country which most supported apartheid in South Africa is the one who has the effrontery today to look South Africa in the face and accuse South Africa of racism.

"Sometimes we forget that when the late South African President, Nelson Mandela, after 27 years in prison and was released and contested elections and won and became president of South Africa was still on the list of terrorist list of the USA. It is the president of the USA which is now turning round to accuse South Africa of racism, unbelievable!" he stated.

Kwesi Pratt then drew a parallel to the ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip by Israelis, which he noted is backed by the US President.

He contended that the atrocities inflicted upon Palestinians are incomparable to what is allegedly happening in South Africa.

"I’m trying to find a scenario that best depicts this situation for now but let me use this one. It is a case of a pot calling a kettle black. It is unbelievable that the president of the USA is talking about racism and in some video he describes what is happening in South Africa as genocide against whites," Pratt exclaimed.

“Now this is the country that is supplying the bombs which are being dropped on Gaza. 70,000 people have been killed in Gaza. Two-thirds of them are women and children. This is the country providing intelligence to the Israeli army to bomb Gaza. They are showing Israeli where to bomb and this is that country accusing others of genocide," he further highlighted.

Pratt, subsequently, called for African leaders to support one another and wean themselves of foreign reliance.
