Pratt Warns Of Disastrous Consequences If

Mr. Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of ?The Insight? newspaper has warned of disastrous consequence for the country if this year?s general elections were rigged.

Contributing to a current affair programme, ?Alhaji and Alhaji on radio Gold, he said what is happening in Kenya should be a lesson for the Electoral Commission (EC) and the government of Ghana to do a everything in their power to avoid a situation like that.

He said the people of Ghana would fight with all the powers at their disposal to restore constitutional rule should this year?s elections be rigged in favour of any of the political parties.

Mr. Pratt cautioned that no group of people should think Ghanaians are docile and therefore would not resist any rigging during the elections. ?Ghanaians?, he added, ?were not different from the people of Kenya, Sierra Leone, Cote d?Ivoire, Liberia and other countries all over the world who have resisted their country?s election results.

We will resist any temptation to rig the 2008 elections. The people of Kenya were never thought of as people who would resist their government to this extent, the people of Liberia were not given a dogs chance to resist their government, the people of Sierra Leone were known to be peaceful and would not fight their government, but all these countries were plunged into civil war because they resisted oppressor?s rule. And Ghanaians cannot be said to be exception and would resist the government of the NPP if the need arises, Mr. Pratt said.

?The Insight? Managing Editor said those who die during such resistance, were not politicians but ordinary people and supporters of political parties ?but it is not always that the politicians are lunch, they are sometimes also caught up in the struggle and they pay dearly for their crimes against the people?, he added. Mr. Pratt said if any political party is thinking of rigging the elections, they should think about Armageddon and stop it because it will be inevitable if rigging should occur.
