Polling agents in Effutu go to school

Winneba(C/R), Nov. 26, GNA - Polling agents have been urged to be conversant with the electoral process and do away with electoral offences. A Returning Officer for the Effutu Constituency, Mr Seth Panwum gave the advice at a day's orientation exercise for 301 Polling Station Agents made up of 251 men and 50 women from 4 political parties.

The Agents drawn from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), will represent their parties at the 42 polling stations in the Effutu Constituency during the December general elections. It was organised by the Effutu Municipal Electoral Commission to sensitize the Agents on the rules and regulation of the elections.

Mr Panwum reminded them that it was an offence for them to inspect voter I.D. cards when prospective voters were in a queue to exercise their franchise and advised them to be vigilant and ensure that the electoral process was strictly adhered to. He said that Polling agents were not to take part in the counting process, must not handle electoral materials and also must not to be in any party apparel like T-Shirts and party symbols during the day of voting.

Earlier in a welcoming address, another Returning Officer, Mr Alex Bernard Ankomah, advised Polling Agents to be abreast with the electoral laws in order to discharge their duties professionally. He urged them not to allow their political affiliations over rule their civic duties.
