Politics is affecting Black Stars performance - Joseph Yamin

Former Deputy Sports Minster Joseph Yamin says over-politicization of the Black Stars is the reason why the senior national football team have been woeful in their recent games.

The four-time African champions last Friday failed to put their World Cup campaign back on track after they drew 1-1 with Congo in Kumasi.

A lot of blame have been apportioned, but the Deputy Sports Minister under the NDC government has intimated that too much politics is the reason for the Black Stars’ poor display.

“The over-politicization of our football is the reason why the Black Stars are not performing,” Yamin said on Happy FM.

He continued: “It is not that we have bad players but we are in a situation that the entire nation are not behind the Black Stars and until we refrain away from that behaviour the Black Stars will continue to suffer.”

According to Yamin prior to AFCON 2017, Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, made a statement that the team will win the cup for the newly elected president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and he believes that statement divided the nation.

“The entire nation wasn’t behind the team prior to the AFCON 2017 simply because of a statement Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu made, which he said the team is going to win the AFCON 2017 trophy for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. A lot of people said Agyemang-Badu has been with the team when John Mahama was the president and there was no statement from the players that they are going to win any cup for John Mahama. That statement from Agyemang-Badu didn’t go down well with a lot of Ghanaians so when Ghana was playing if they lose a game you will rather see Ghanaians jubilating.”
