Politicians deserve to be caned for fleecing Ghanaians – Minister

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta has stated that political leaders of the country deserve to be lashed for their dubious and selfish ways.

Speaking on Atinka TV with Bismark Brown on “Ghana Nie” Friday, the minister said, “the youth of this country are very patient; they have to line up politicians and lash them very well because you’re our children and we have failed you by our selfishness and greed, “he charged.

The Minister’s comment follows the report of a sub-committee he tasked to investigate the award of several road contracts upon assumption of office.

According to him, the report of the committee established that some of the road contracts had no proper documentation even though funds had had been made available for the projects.

“There are documents to prove some of the contracts were illegal; they show that a contract has been awarded to some contractor but it will surprise you that there’s no work done on the supposed road, not even a wheelbarrow has been sent there,” he charged.

He explained that this was the reason why he tasked the Road and Highways Rationalization Committee to validate the projects and assess the total amount to be spent on each project.

The minister however said there are more qualified engineers in the country who can equally construct and plan better road network to meet international standards.

“It is bad to award contract to contractors who are incapable of delivering a good job,” he said.
