Policing not for the dull, says senior police officer

Ho, Feb 12, GNA - Mr David Ampah-Bennin, the Volta Regional Police Commander, on Friday said policing was not for the unimaginative but the astute person with a good analytical sense. He said the policeman and woman who would spend the greater part of his free time watching television instead of mixing with the people and picking bits and pieces of information was in the wrong profession. Mr Ampah-Bennin was addressing the Regional Commander's Parade of 60 men and women drawn from the region at the Ho Police Training School on Friday.

He said the good security officer was that whose actions and reactions were based on analyzed intelligence reports and therefore regrettable that some men and women in the Service were holed in their homes, hooked to soap operas and entertainments with little inkling of what went on in their communities. He said policemen and women not ready for the job could drop their weapons and quit.

The Regional Commander also said freaks, such as Constable Stephen Owusu in the Dzodze District, who is on the run over a defilement incident, better be warned.

He appealed to the officers to brace up to tackle the rising robbery, murder and defilement cases in the region and be ready to put armed robbers, including highway robbers, to flight. Mr Ampah-Bennin, speaking to the GNA on the significance of the parade said they were held regularly to ensure readiness of the police and keep the command chain fluid.
