Policeman remanded over homosexuality

Kumasi, May 8, GNA - A Police Constable was on Monday remanded into police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly sodomising a 15-year-old boy.

Constable Bernard Ampeh, 28, pleaded not guilty to the charge and would re-appear on May 14.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Francis Kusi, told the court presided over by Mr R.M. Kugyapwah, that Ampeh, stationed at Kwaman in the Sekyere West district of Ashanti, on March 25, this year visited his friend who lived in the same house with the victim. Chief Inspector Kusi said Ampeh on arrival at the house, asked the victim, who is a JSS pupil to call him his fianc=E9e in a nearby house. The prosecution said the victim returned and told the accused that he did not meet the so-called fianc=E9e. The constable then invited the boy into his friend's room and at gunpoint started having anal sex with the victim.

Whilst the act was in progress, an aunt of the victim entered the room and spotted them and raised an alarm.

The prosecution said constable Ampeh quickly dressed up and took to his heels, but was arrested later.

The victim's aunt made a report to the Nsuta police where a medical form was issued for the victim to be sent to the Mampong Government Hospital for treatment.

According to the prosecutor, a letter received from the police headquarters directed that the accused be arraigned. Meanwhile, blood samples of both the victim and the accused have been sent to the laboratory to test for HIV/AIDS, Chief Inspector Kusi added.
