Police withdrawal from Donkorkrom wrong – Aning

The Ghana Police Service has been flayed for pulling out of Donkorkrom in the Eastern region following clashes between the law enforcement personnel and the locals.

The riot which resulted in gunshot injuries ended up in the torching of parts of the police post in the area and the burning of cars.

The Inspector General of Police has directed his charges to pullout from the volatile area until the indigenes fix the damaged post and replace the burnt police vehicles.

The Head of Research of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre Dr Kwesi Aning feels the directive will not serve the interest of anyone.

“It is a wrong move by the police because it’s not the totality of the citizens and residents of Donkorkrom who did whatever took place,” Dr Aning is quoted by Class FM.

He added: “Even if it is 10 people who are innocent, those 10 people deserve protection from the police because by not getting involved in this action, they would be perceived by the generality of the people in the town as being against their action and their lives may be in danger.”

Meanwhile, over a hundred combined force of Police and military personnel have been dispatched to the area to maintain law and order.
