Police warn Legon Students

Accra, April 26, GNA - The Director-General of Operations and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Kofi Boakye on Tuesday warned the student leadership of the University of Ghana, Legon about the consequences of breaching the peace on campus.

A statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kwesi Ofori said the meeting with the Students Representative Council (SRC) and the school Authorities was due to the ongoing impasse on the University campus. The Police warned the students to be law abiding or else it would use the required force to maintain the peace on campus. It said: "Students should not underestimate the capacity of the Police to contain all forms of violence being exhibited on the campus of the Nation's Premier University."

The statement said the invitation of the Police by the University Authorities was an indication that the security situation there was deteriorating and that the Police were determined to bring the situation to normalcy.

It reminded the students to be responsible and not to dissipate the scarce resources of the Service that could otherwise be channelled into containing the armed robbery menace. 26 April 06
