Police using private cars for operations

La Police Command sends SOS for vehicle

Accra, Feb. 27, GNA- The only vehicle serving the La Police Headquarters has broken down and police officers are therefore using their private cars for operations, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Adane Nyamekye, La District Commander, said on Tuesday. He has therefore appealed to the public, especially organizations in and around the area, to come to its aid in order to enhance its crime combat exercises.

"The vehicle I am talking about is being repaired and from the way things are going, I don't think we would be able to use it before our 50th anniversary," he said.

ASP Nyamekye made the appeal when he received 20 buckets of emulsion paint, 22 gallons of oil paint and six gallons of turpentine estimated at five million cedis from the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The District Commander said the station was in dire need of accommodation for personnel, water and building materials for an uncompleted three bedroom house.

ASP Nyamekye said at the moment, six constables who were entitled to their own apartments were now putting up in one room of the station. This, he said, was creating problems for the personnel and pleaded with benevolent organizations to assist the Police to provide them with accommodation.

"The La Beach Resort has managed to provide roofing materials for the three bedroom; what we are now left with are room fittings, plastering and painting," he added.

Commenting on donation, ASP Nyamekye said the items would be used to beautify the Police Station.

Mr Nii Amasah Namoale, Member of Parliament (MP) Dadekotopon, lauded the role played by the Hotel noting that it was not only interested in promoting their social responsibility but the security of the people as well.

"I believe that the gesture displayed by the management of the hotel, shows that they have not neglected their social responsibilities...," the MP added.

Mr Adrian Landry, General Manager, Labadi Beach Hotel, said the gesture formed part of its social responsibility aimed at supporting the Police in their operations.

He lauded efforts made by the Police in La in combating crime saying, "those efforts have brought about peace and calm in the area." 27 Feb. 07
