The Ghana Police Service will begin the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1, 2026.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, by the Public Affairs Directorate at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the Service said the programme forms part of efforts to tackle indiscipline on the country’s roads and improve compliance with traffic laws and regulations.

Police to introduce electronic traffic tickets for motorists

The initiative will be implemented by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). TRAFFITECH-GH will rely on cameras and Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations.

“Under the programme, detected offences will be reviewed, and Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) issued to vehicle owners or drivers through SMS. The notice will indicate the offence committed and the prescribed fine,” the statement said.

The Police Service has called on all motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to obey road traffic regulations and support the new system.

“The Service therefore urges all motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and support the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and casualties,” the release stated.

The statement was signed by Richmond Mensah, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate.

The move is expected to strengthen the automated detection and enforcement of traffic violations across the country as part of broader efforts to improve road safety.
