Police shoot teacher, brother dead at Mampong

An anatomy and physiology tutor of the Mampong Midwifery Training College in the Ashanti Region Francis Gbene and his younger brother were on Wednesday dawn, shot dead by police on patrol duties at school who mistook them for robbers.

The two had gone to respond to a distress call by students following an alleged robbery attack on them

One of the school’s night watchmen Abubakari Kona called for the assistance of the tutor after the robbers started firing gunshots indiscriminately on entering the campus to scare their victims.

The suspected robbers it was gathered fled when they realized that an alarm had been raised before the deceased tutor and his brother arrived at the scene on a motorbike.

Nana Kwame Asumani a Mampong-based journalist told ultimate1069.com that the police patrol team was also informed and headed straight to the school.

Mr. Gbene and his brother who were now returning to their apartment after failing to arrest the robbers, were spotted by the police at a distance who mistook them for the suspected robbers and fired at them killing the two instantly.

The bodies of the deceased persons have since been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital.

Police in the area confirmed the incident to ultimate1069.com but indicate that investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause of shooting leading to the deaths.

Staff of the school according to ultimate1069.com checks, are grief-stricken over the unfortunate incident and are demanding justice for the demised teacher.
