Police seize unlicensed vehicles

Kumasi, Oct 14, GNA- The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, has seized 35 private and public vehicles with fake registration numbers, during a special exercise in Kumasi. The vehicles, were allegedly smuggled into the country.

Chief Superintendent Augustine Gyenning, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the MTTU, who briefed journalists in Kumasi on Thursday, said the exercise started last Tuesday.

He said during one of the operations, the police arrested two vehicles with the same registration number.

Chief Supt. Gyenning said vehicles with fake registration numbers were those often used in armed robberies, while the owners also evade the payment of tax.

He said the Regional Crime Officer would investigate how the vehicles got into the country and hand them over to the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) for the necessary penalty to be imposed on the owners.
