Police, residents clash at Dagomba line, scores injured

Several people have been injured after a bloody clash between some residents at Dagomba Line and the Police SWAT team at Aboabo-Magema in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region.

Several properties, including 4 houses, have been destroyed in the clash which started early Tuesday morning.

Seven persons who suffered machete wounds have been rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment.

The incident started when a landowner of the area secured a court order to demolish structures which serve as an abode to squatters.

However, some aggrieved squatters met the ejection exercise with fierce resistance, set some buildings on fire and attacked the police officers with stones, sticks and other offensive weapons.

Kingdom FM’s Antwi Boasiako reported that the Police team in the heat of the attack retreated for reinforcement.

Ishmael Abdul Rahman, son of the owners of the land, told our Reporter the police team were there this morning only to ensure that the court order was executed but was unfortunately prevented.
