The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has directed the Central Regional Command to take over the investigation of the alleged rape of a four-year-old at Assin Adadientem in the Assin Fosu District. The victim was defiled by one Kwabena, who is on the run.

He is said to have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the ‘gods’ of Adadientem through the local chief in what has stirred public anger. What is more, the victim is reported to be fighting for her life at the St Francis Xavier Hospital.

A release issued by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday said the investigation “will focus on how to save the child, whether Police procedures were duly followed and generally ensuring that justice is done”.

A Clinical Psychologist from the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Service has also been assigned to assist the process.

“The Police Administration therefore assures the public that any person who is found culpable of wrongdoing, including police officers would be dealt with law,” the release signed by Director of Public Affairs DSP Sheilla Abayie-Buckman concluded.
