Police mount search for suspected criminals

Kumasi, Sept. 27, GNA – The police at Akomadan in the Offinso North District have mounted a search for a group of armed criminals, suspected to have escaped with gunshot wounds after they engaged them in fierce gun battle.

The incident happened when the police responded to a distress call on the night of September 22, to stop the robbing of travellers on the Akomdan-Nkenkansu stretch of the Kumasi-Techiman Highway.

A press release signed by Chief Inspector Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit in Kumasi said although the robbers managed to flee they might have done so with some injuries.

Residents in the area, especially those in Akomadan, Nkenkansu and other surrounding communities to be vigilant and report all suspicious people with wounds to the police.

The release encouraged hospitals and other health facilities to do the same.

It vowed that no effort would be spared to arrest and to bring the culprits to justice.

The police assured the people that they are determined to carry the fight to the criminals to allow law-abiding citizens to have their peace.

The release said the public could do their bit by ensuring self-security and to also volunteer information to the police.
