Police looking for man who attempts to set his wife ablaze

Sekondi, July 20, GNA — The Western Regional Police Command is on the lookout for a 52-year-old carpenter (name withheld) for attempting to set his wife ablaze at Diabene.

Confirming the incident to the GNA in an interview in Sekondi on Tuesday, Western Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, Mr. Lawrence Gbele, said the couple had married for over 25 years and had six children.

He said a few months ago, the couple had marital problems and the husband threatened to kill his wife and moves to resolve the problems proved futile.

Mr. Gbele said at about 1400 hours on July 13 the husband sprinkled petrol on all the clothes of his wife and invited the wife to their room for a discussion.

He said when the wife entered the room her husband, who was then lying on a bench outside, rushed into the room and attempted to set it ablaze.

Mr Gbele said a co-tenant who saw the husband rushing into the room dashed into the room and rescued the woman.

The wife reported the incident to the police but the man escaped from the town.

A police search in the room revealed a yellow gallon with fuel and matches beside it.
