Police impound motorbikes

Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - The Adenta Police Command and the Madina MTTU Divisional Police Command on Sunday impounded 48 motorbikes without relevant documents covering them.

The Adenta Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yaw Tettegah told the GNA that all those arrested would be investigated and prosecuted. The offences were, among others, motorbikes without number plates, insurance and other relevant documents and riders who were not wearing crash helmets.

DSP. Tettegah added that on Friday, September 28, two robbers on a motorbike and armed with a locally manufactured pistol took customers hostage in a mobile phone shop near the Adenta Goil Filing Station. The armed robbers who fired indiscriminately to frighten bystanders and customers in the shop, managed to escape with unspecified amounts of money, phones and phone cards. According to Mr.Tettegah, the robbery case precipitated the arrest of motorbikes that do not have relevant documents. In another development, the Madina MTTU Police Divisional Command under Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr.James Owusu Mensah also arrested 21 motorbikes.

He said after investigations, the owners would be prosecuted on Monday, October 1 at the Madina Magistrates' Court Grade I. ASP Owusu Mensah called on motor riders to always wear their crash helmets to avoid being killed in an accident. 30 Sept. 07
